1. e4 Nc6 2. d4 e5 3. d5 Nce7 4. Nc3 Nf6 5. Nf3 Ng6 6. a3 a6 7. Bc4 White's idea is to start thinking about f7. The medium-term being, Ng5 and at some point advancing the pawn d5 to d6 7... b5 8. Bb3 b4 9. axb4 Bxb4 10. Bd2 Bxc3 11. Bxc3 Nxe4 12. Bxe5 O-O 13. Qd4 Nxe5 14. Nxe5 Nd6 15. O-O Castling was vital to prevent the Knight from being pinned by Rook or Queen. 15... Nf5 16. Qc3 d6 17. Nc6 Qg5 18. f4 Qg6 19. Rfe1 The idea is to lure Black into thinking Nh4 g3 Nf3+ forking King and Rook... hoping he wouldn't notice the much more devastating Nh4 Ne7+ forking King and Queen 19... Kh8 20. Ne7 He did notice, but the move still makes sense, as it forces the exchange of Knights, which where becoming troublesome. 20... Nxe7 21. Rxe7 Bb7 22. Qxc7 This is the beginning of the end. Rxc7 would have been much better 22... Ra7 23. Rae1?? not even noticing the danger in g2... 23... Bxd5 24. Re8?? Completely oblivious of Qxg2#, White is offering a Queen because Rxf8# was round the corner, as well as Rxe8 Rxe8# or even h6 Rxf8+ Kh7 Qxa7 and all the rest of it... but obviously that only works without the triangular attack in g2. 24... Qxg2#
